Treatment
We use acupuncture and other forms of Oriental medicine, including Chinese herbs and moxibustion (a localized heat treatment). This form of treatment has been proven effective for many, many conditions, from asthma to women’s (gynecological) health.
The first visit (with diagnosis) usually lasts an hour or so, including the acupuncture treatment. In your subsequent visits we’ll make a short review of your progress followed by an acupuncture treatment.
If it’s warranted, we also prescribe an herbal formula. Herbs are nearly always prescribed in a balanced formula, where different herbs have supporting effects. Thousands of years of use and research have shown that this is far more effective than large doses of a single substance.
Typically acupuncture treatments are given up to 3 times per week until the condition starts to come under control. The exact duration of treatment depends on the condition, your basic level of health, and how well you respond to acupuncture.
About Community Acupuncture Treatments
The community treatments are done in very comfortable zero-gravity recliners or on a massage table. After a brief initial consultation, you will be seated in one of the recliners or lie on the table in the community room, and the needles will be placed in the appropriate points, most often on the forearms, hands, lower legs, feet, and head. Treatment on the table may also include points on the lower back. You can facilitate the process by wearing loose-fitting clothes which can easily expose the areas from the knees and elbows down. The needles are then retained for about 30-45 minutes while you relax. At the end of the treatment, the needles are removed.
